Punjab : Karvachauth, the festival of married women was celebrated in high spirits in the jails and the jail women inmates were very happy and thankful to the Government of Punjab
This is out of the bunch of the special initiatives that the government has taken to make jail inmates good citizens during their stay behind bars. For the purpose, we have been and we will be organizing special camps and activities in all the jails, said Sr. Sarwan SIngh Phillaur, Minister of Jails, Government of Punjab.
“We intend to help women who are behind the bars. Our aim is to change the notion that jail inmates can only be punished,” said the Jails Minister.The arrangements made for the women in the jails have been up to the mark and the jail authorities have been able to successfully organize and execute this initiative, said Phillaur.
The Women inmates were allowed to perform the rituals specially Katha inside the jail premises and special extension of timings and food arrangements were given to the inmates. Across all jails, there have been a good number of husbands who have visited their wives in jails to help their wives complete their fast ritually.
Sr. Phillaur mentioned that the government under the leadership of Sr. Prakash Singh Badal is keen to take various initiatives to make inmates more civilized and mature so that they do not indulge in such activities again.
The name ‘SUDHAR GHAR’ will really be living up to it if such activities take place regularly and the inmates are taught how to live a better life when they are released, added the Minister.
