The Supreme court on Thursday upheld validity of Haryana law specifying minimum educational and other criteria for candidates to contest Panchayat election in the state.
As per the Clauses of amended act, to contest panchayat elections in Haryana, a general category candidate has to pass at least Class X and a Scheduled Caste candidate at least Class VIII.
The educational requirement for women candidates from the SC category was fifth pass.
All candidates should have functional toilets at their residences, face no criminal charges framed in the court and should not be defaulters of any cooperative bank.
