Chandigarh : Only 1% parents want girls’ hostels to be open 24X7, as per the recent PU survey , PU authorities had taken feedback of 1,500 parents of hostel inmates in all 10 girls’ hostels. Most of the (90%) parents are in consonance with the 11 pm deadline in girls’ hostels, while 9 per cent want the hostel timings to be further made strict and just 1 per cent want girls’ hostels open 24X7.
Whereas dean, Students Welfare (DSW), Prof Emanuel Nahar, said, “There are no restrictions on PhD and MPhil women students. There are no restrictions on women students going to the library at night”.
One of the student of Philosophy department says, we don’t want 24×7 girls hostel entry, we all are here to study. University have given us very good atmosphere in hostels, and we can also go to library at night for the purpose of study. The hostel timing restrictions are not hard and fast rules.
Many students are objecting to the protest at night as it was a time to study. Some hostel inmates are planning to protest against the 24×7 hostel entry campaign by the SFS party.
