The day is a global health awareness day celebrated under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization.
The World Health Day is held to mark WHO’s founding and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year.
In recent years, India has witnessed a rapid economic growth but, still several challenges lie ahead such as providing proper health facilities to all.
A large number of cases related to diseases as deadly as HIV, Aids and Cancer as well as Diabetes, heart problems, Obesity and depression are being registered lately.
There is also a dearth of skilled medical professionals in the health sector.Rural areas face the problem of lack of medical facilities as well.
Keeping these things in view, the government has initiated the National Health Mission and has also taken steps to ensure that more and more medical equipment is manufactured in the country.
Yoga is also being promoted to ensure people take up a healthier lifestyle.Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Mission is also a step in the direction of a healthier India.
Food safety is the theme of this years World Health day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prayed for the best of health of all people on World Health Day.
The Prime Minister in his message on twitter has also said that the government is working to realise the dream of a healthy India where every citizen has access to proper and affordable healthcare.
