Chandigarh, October 10: Congress MP Mr Deepender Singh Hooda today said that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector would benefit the farming community, youth and consumers in a big way as the farmers would get remunerative price for their produce, youth would get increased employment opportunities and consumers would get better quality products at lower rates.
Mr Hooda was addressing the the 400 elected youth representatives at the youth convention organised by Punjab Youth Congress at Attari near here today. Congress General Secretary Mr Rahul Gandhi was the chief guest in the convention. Various Punjab Congress leaders including former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Union Minister Mrs Ambika Soni, Rani Parneet Kaur, Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar, Punjab Congress Incharge Gulchain Singh Charak, Youth Congress President Mr rajiv Satav, MP Meenakshi Natrajan also addressed the function.
While hailing the FDI in Retail, Mr Hooda said that it would benefit the national economy and all sections of the society including small manufacturers but the opposition parties were opposing this move just for the sake of opposing the decisions taken by the UPA leadership, which is not a healthy practice for the democracy. The opposition parties should play constructive role and should have welcomed this people friendly decision. He said that the move would not adversely affect small shopkeeper because only the hoarders would be adversely affected.
Mr Hooda said that the farmers would be benefited from the significant reduction in post-harvest losses from the strengthening of the backend infrastructure. They would also be enabled to obtain a remunerative price for their produce, he added. He said that youth stand to benefit from the creation of employment opportunities in ago-processing, sorting, marketing, logistic management and the front-end retail business. The consumers stand to gain firstly from the lowering of prices from supply chain efficiencies and secondly, through improved product quality from efficient grading, sorting and packaging; testing and quality control and product standardization, he added.
Mr Hooda said that the implementation of the policy would facilitate greater FDI inflows, additional & quality employment, global best practices ushering a transformational impact in the rural economy and benefits to consumers and farmers in the long run. The Rupee has registered strengthening and that would benefit every section in one or the other. The positive impact has already resulted in the decrease of Petrol prices by 68 paise per litre.
Obviously to run the afffairs of country, is a business.
Why do not our Leaders; the so called Care Takers of the affairs of this nation, called Bharat-Hindustan-India, having failed to run the said affairs successfully; directly handover this nation to the Foreigners, instead of selling it indirectly through this FDIs in almost every sector?–dr.amritgaur
