The congress party has said that it would consider giving reservation to muslims in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of similar reservation in states of Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, if it comes to power in Uttar Pradesh.
The statement comes just days after election commission asked the central govt to put on hold its decision to provide 4.5 percent sub quota to minorities within 27 percent OBC reservation in five poll bound states.
Congress party’s incharge for UP, Digvijay Singh also termed Samajwadi party’s promise of 18 percent reservation to muslims over and above 49.5 percent reservation, as impractical and false promise.
Singh further said this would require a constitutional amendment and the SP did not have the number to get it passed.
