The UN has condemned the killing of Indian investigative scribe, Jyotirmoy Dey in Mumbai who had extensively covered underworld, demanding support for journalists acting as watchdogs.
“This is vital if journalists are to meet their duty to serve as watchdogs reporting professionally on the work of government, civil society and business. Journalists need to be supported as they ensure that informed citizens are able to take an active part in society,” Irina Bokova, the head of UNESCO, urged Indian authorities to investigate his death.
He was shot dead in broad daylight by four motorbike-borne assailants at Powai on 11th June.
