Y.S. RANA, CHANDIGARH—Age-old manual system of attendance in Chandigarh public offices will be a thing of the past as the Chandigarh Administration has decided to install biometric attendance devices in all its offices and government schools by the end of next month bringing the entire government employees under the punctuality regime.
Sources in the Administration revealed that around 350 biometric attendance devices would be purchased at an approximate cost of Rs 28 lakh to be installed in all public offices and government schools. In the first phase of the project, 100 such devices would be installed soon including UT secretariat. Cost of the devices would be borne by the respective departments and schools, he added.
The official of the Administration said that punctuality and work culture went side by side and there was continuous decline in both standards One may find the employees no longer are physically present in the office.. At last, end loser is the public, he adds.
The system will track whether government employees are showing up for work on time. What’s more, not only will Big Boss watch ‘babus’ as it verifies officialdom identity and records his/her time-in and time-out with all required details. “It will also ensure that the employee is personally present to mark the attendance, said the source.
On the other there some who raised question on the success of the system stating that such move by the Haryana government was thwarted by the staff of education department broke the biometric devices in a bid to undo the move as it has created chaos at the entry of the civil secretariat.
The dashboard of the Biometric Attendance Device displays a dynamic, real-time chart of how many people are at work. It is also possible to click through and check when an individual checks in and logs out of the system.
Hence, it is considered more superior, most reliable technology and an ultimate solution for the long pinching problem of proxy punching, said the official of the Administration. He says officials spending more time at work could also lead to more productivity and cutting down on pendency.
Presently, office timings in Chandigarh Administration are from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.
