They exhorted people to bring a change in the country. Attacking the UPA government and threatening “a fight to the finish” by August on the black money issue, Anna Hazare and yoga guru Baba Ramdev sat on a day long fast protesting against corruption on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Anna Hazare said that through Right to Information act, many discrepancies are coming into light. And now, those who indulge in corrupt practices, should be adequately punished.
Baba Ramdev said that he will work towards bringing back black money stashed abroad and launch a nationwide agitation for a strong Lokpal.
BJP blamed the government for not replying to the questions put up in the matters of corruption and black money in the parliament.
Refuting the allegations made by BJP, Congress said that the government has taken several steps for bringing back black money stashed abroad. He also said that the government is working towards getting the Lokpal bill passed in Parliament.
Samajwadi Party rebuked Team Anna and said that today it has become a fashion to show that they are participating in the fight against corruption.
Before reaching the dharna venue Ramdev and Anna Hazare went to Rajghat at the samadi of Mahatma Gandhi.
The day-long fast has been called to mark one year of Ramdev’s last agitation at Ramlila ground, from where he was arrested in the middle of the night between 3rd-4th June last year.
An elaborate security arrangements have been made to avert any eventuality as besides Delhi Police personnel, 20 companies of para military forces are deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, Minister of State in the PMO, Narayansamy has strongly criticized targeting of the Prime Minister and some ministers by the Team Anna.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Sunday, he said the government has taken several steps to fight corruption and bringing back black money.
He said that these people are only spreading confusion among people for their own agenda.
