31 July : Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of India presented Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Running Shield to Kendriya Vidyalaya, CLRI, Chennai, the winner of the 21st National Youth Parliament Competition, 2008-2009 for Kendriya Vidyalayas here today.
Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources, while welcoming the Vice President of India and other dignitaries on the occasion said, many years back we chose the democratic form of governance finding it to be the best. He said that though the government of the day must have its way in this form of governance, it also ensures that the opposition too has it say. He further said that the reason of democracy should have precedence over sound of democracy for ensuring collective good of people at large.
Speaking about the Scheme, Shri Bansal said that it offers an opportunity to inculcate democratic temper in the youngsters who are the parliamentarians of future. He commended the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, CLRI, Chennai, the winner of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Running Shield for their excellent presentation of a short sitting of the “Youth Parliament”.
5 Vidyalayas which stood first in their respective zones and 12 Vidyalayas which stood first in their respective regions have also been selected for receiving Trophies. 90 schools had participated in the 21st National Youth Parliament Competition for Kendriya Vidyalayas organized during 2008-2009. The competition was held in two stages, first at the regional level and then at the national level. The position of regional winner was determined on the basis of evaluation of performance for the national level.
The Vidyalayas, which stood first in their respective regions, then competed at the national level. Teams of judges which inter-alia included MPs/Ex-MPs alongwith officers of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan evaluated the presentations. On the basis of the evaluation, Kendriya Vidyalaya, CLRI, Chennai was declared winner at the National Level.
Shri P.J. Thomas, Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in his vote of thanks conveyed the heartiest gratitude to the Vice President of India for presenting the Running Shield to the winner and thus encouraging the youngsters to carry forward the great tradition of democracy in the country.
Congratulations to the students of KV, CLRI, Chennai to have brought laurels to their school. Kudos children. A pat for the teachers and other staff members who have trained their children to achieve this fete. I am proud to be a parent of one of the children studying in that school. Regards.
