11 Apr : With NCP chief Sharad Pawar having hinted that he was in the race for prime minister’s post and expected Left support, WBengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee emphatically said that the PM of the Third Front would be decided only after the LS elections.
"All parties in the Third Front will first sit together and formulate policies and after that who would be the prime minister will be decided," Bhattacherjee said.
Claiming that the Third Front was gaining strength he said, "Devi Gowda, Mayawati, AIDMK, TDP and Left parties are there. BJD has severed links with BJP. Mulayam Singh is there. And, Sharad Pawar had also said he is there. Can we not form the government?" he asked at a Left Front Lok Sabha election meeting at Kolkata on Saturday.
The "wrong policies" of the Congress-led UPA had led to allies deserting it one by one. "The only job Manmohan Singh has done in five years is sign the nuclear deal with the US, which is against national interest."
Predicting the demise of the Congress after the polls, Bhattacharjee said "after the elections Congress will sleep for five years and ponder over the mistakes that led to its downfall."
Coming down on the BJP, he said "BJP’s policies are to divide people on communal lines. West Bengal has no place for communal forces," he said.
Criticising the Congress for allying with the Trinamool Congress, Bhattacherjee said "I asked Pranab Mukherjee the other day what kind of alliance is it and whether he was sure that after the election, the Trinamool Congress will not again switch over to BJP."
"We do not want BJP get a single seat in West Bengal," he added.
