24 June:Secretary Ministry of Steel, Shri R.S.Pandey last night received the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award. The Award was presented at the UN Head Quarters in New York to mark the Public Service Day. Shri Pandey was given the award for a unique programme of communitization of Public Institutions and Services in Nagaland.
The programme was conceptualized and implemented by Shri R.S.Pandey during 2002-04 when he was Chief Secretary to Government of Nagaland. The programme has resulted in significant improvement in Government provided basic services in the area of elementary education, public health and power utilities. Shri Pandey has also won the Civil Service Award for his contribution to governance through this innovative programme.
Shri R.S.Pandey headed a three member delegation including the present Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Shri Lalhuma and Shri V.Sakhri, Secretary to Govt. of Nagaland which received the Award. The Award consists of a trophy and a certificate.
Shri Pandey is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service Officer of Nagaland cadre. Born on 15.1.1950 in the West Champaran district of Bihar, Shri Pandey has held several important positions including that of Secretary Ministry of Steel since 26.7.2006.
There are twelve winners from different parts of the world this year including the Communitization programme from India. The award is considered as the most prestigious recognition of excellence in the public services.
