17 June:Taking strong exception to the removal of 12 SC/ST students from IIT Delhi for not being "able to cope up", the National Commission for Scheduled Castes today asked the institute’s director to look into the matter and follow UGC guidelines.
A decision to summon Director of IIT, Delhi, Surendra Prasad was taken after a complaint was registered with the Commission by the father of one of the Backward Class students who was asked to leave the college because of "very poor performance".
Prasad has assured the commission that he would talk to the students and try to sort out the matter, Commission Chairperson Buta Singh said.
Singh said the premier institution had been flouting UGC guidelines on the reservation policy and must adopt the rules immediately.
The institution, this year, had asked 20 undergraduate students to leave the campus as their performance was found "below the required minimum level for continuation".
The complainant alleged that the IIT administration had deliberately handpicked the students from SC/ST communities to throw them out of the institute.Courtsey : DD NEWS
