14 August :The Government today announced the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2006 to be awarded to 59 workers employed in the Departmental Undertakings & Public Sector Undertakings of the Central and State Governments and Private Sector Units employing 500 or more workers in recognition of their distinguished performances, innovative abilities, outstanding contribution in the field of productivity and exhibition of exceptional courage and presence of mind.
This year, no nomination was found suitable for the prestigious Shram Ratna Award. Four nominations have been adjudged as suitable for the Shram Bhushan Award. Twelve nominations have been selected for Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana and Seventeen (one in lieu of Shram Ratna) for Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards. Even though, the total number of Shram Awards is 33, the number of workers receiving the Awards is 59 (including 2 women), as some of the Awards have been shared by workers and/or teams of workers consisting of more than one worker. These include 41 workers from the public sector and 18 workers from the private sector.
SHRAM RATNA
This is the highest Award (one in number) among the Shram Awards and carries a cash award of Rs.2,00,000/- along with a ‘Sanad’. However, for the Award Year 2006, no nomination was found suitable for the Shram Ratna Award.
SHRAM BHUSHAN
Total number of Shram Bhushan Awards is four. It carries a cash award of Rs.1,00,000/- and a ‘Sanad’. Four nominations were found suitable for the Shram Bhushan Award. For the year 2006, the Shram Bhushan Awards have been given to two teams of Public Sector Undertakings comprising of S/Shri Ravindra Kumar Gadge, Rajendra Kumar Singh, Hemant Kumar Adil, Mukesh Sharma and Anil Kumar Gupta (Jointly) [All from Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai (SAIL)]; S/Shri N. Pratap, A. Madhukaran, Alluru Kesavulu, B. Gopala Krishna, G.N. Vittal Rao, Dayakishan Kandapal (Jointly) (All from Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad) (all from public sector) and two teams form Private Sector comprising of S/Shri Rana Pratap Singh, Sunil Kumar (Jointly) (Both from Tata Steel Ltd., Jamshedpur) and Shri Tarun Mohan Srivastava from Tata Steel Ltd., Jamshedpur.
SHRAM VIR/SHRAM VEERANGANA
Total number of Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana Awards is twelve. It carries a cash award of Rs.60,000/- and a ‘Sanad’. One woman worker from public sector has been awarded Shram Veerangana Award. No female worker from private sector was found suitable for Shram Veerangana Award.
