20 Apr : R K Pachauri, Chairman of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was conferred with a prestigious Japanese award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the enhancement of that country’s policy towards climate change.
Japan’s Ambassador Hideaki Domichi presented the award “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” to Pachauri on behalf of His Majesty Akihito, the Emperor of Japan, at a ceremony in New Delhi.
The award is conferred in recognition of distinguished accomplishments by individuals, both Japanese and foreign.
Last year on 3rd November , the Emperor of Japan had announced the award for the head of The Energy and Resources Institute.
Pachauri has also been conferred with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008, India’s third and second highest civilian honour.
