12 June : Madrassas in the national capital may soon offer education in science, mathematics, social studies and languages and be equipped with advanced equipment.The Directorate of Education under Delhi Government has invited proposals from the institutions for their modernisation, under a scheme launched by the HRD Ministry.
The government will provide assistance for appointment of qualified teachers for teaching science, mathematics, social studies and languages.Funds will be provided to them to have facilities like science lab, libraries and kits for learning mathematics.
The madrassas will get grants for strengthening educational infrastructure and physical facilities. They could start multi-stream residential higher secondary schools for girls also.
The objective behind madrassa modernisation is to ensure that when Muslim youths complete education, they are equipped for the job market.The government has already decided to treat madrassa qualification at par with CBSE.
