17 Feb : Echoing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s words, BJP leader K Advani on Tuesday said the Mumbai terror attacks could not have taken place without local support and demanded a "thorough judicial inquiry" into the matter.
"It is clear that planning happened for a year and they visited the places they attacked on 26th November. It is not possible that there are no local links in 26/11. It is a well-planned conspiracy," he said in his speech initiating the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address to the joint sitting.
The Leader of the Opposition questioned the basis on which the Mumbai Police Commissioner gave a "certificate" denying any local involvement and stating that all those responsible for the carnage had been accounted for.
"The investigation is not yet complete. Yet a statement by the Mumbai Police Commissioner says that all those responsible for the carnage have been accounted for. That they are either dead or in custody. And there is no local link. How can they have give that certificate," he asked.
