June,29:Even the high walls of Tihar Prison failed to prevent him and his Nigerian accomplice from allegedly running a drug syndicate from what is perceived as a country’s secured jail.
This is the story of one Krishan Kumar Tiwari, at present lodged in the Tihar prison on kidnapping and extortion charges, against whom the Narcotics Control Bureau has moved a production warrant after it seized drugs worth Rs four crore.
The racket was busted with the arrest of a Nigerian woman and Anju Tiwari, wife of Tiwari, from the Uttam Nagar area in West Delhi on Saturday evening, Narcotics Control Bureau officials said on Sunday.
The agency claimed that Anju’s husband Krishan Kumar Tiwari was the main kingpin of the racket along with some other alleged Nigerian drug traffickers currently lodged in the jail.
The duo were caught while exchanging a consignment of four kg of Afghanistan heroin worth Rs four crore in the international market besides 30,000 USD also.
Both Anju and the foreign national used to visit the jail every Monday and Thursday where they were briefed by Tiwari and his Nigerian fellow inmates about supplying of drugs and prospective customers.
Officials said that the syndicate was formed after Tiwari got in touch with the alleged drug traffickers currently lodged in Asia’s largest prison, Tihar jail.
