Chandigarh, June 25- Government of India has introduced Dr.Ambedkar Medical Assistance Scheme to provide better medical facilities to the poor Scheduled Castes people.
Under the scheme financial assistance upto Rs. one lakh is provided to meet medical expenditures of the poor Scheduled Castes people suffering from serious diseases of kidney, heart, liver, brain, knee,
backbone, cancer and any other fatal disease. First instalment of 50 per cent amount of the total estimated medical expenditure is released directly to the hospital before operation and the rest of payment is
made on the basis of the medical bills verified by the Medical Superintendent of the concerned hospital.
While giving this information here today, the Haryana Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister, Mrs.Kartar Devi said that Scheduled Castes persons having annual family income less than
Rs. 50,000 were eligible for availing assistance under the scheme. She said that eligible persons should send their applications in prescribed proforma to the Director, Dr.Ambedkar Pratishthan, 15-Janpath, New Delhi atleast 15 days before the date of their operation. The applications should be sent through local M.P.,
concerned District Welfare Officer, Deputy Commissioner or Secretary Incharge of the Health or Social Welfare Department of the State or Union Territory.
