In pursuance of the decision of Governing Body in its meeting held on 17.1.2011. Dr.Amod Gupta, Professor & Head, Department of Ophthalmology has been appointed as Dean and Dr. Kusum Joshi, Prof. & Head, Department of Histopathology as Sub-Dean of the Institute for a period of three years with immediate effect.
Prof. Amod Gupta is a leading clinician and research scientist of international repute in the field of retina and uveitis with significant original contribution in the field of diabetic retionopathy, tuberculosis of the eye and endopathalmitis. He is a rare combination of great team leader, administrator, teacher, researcher and surgeon. He is recipient of Dr. R.N.Mathur Award and A.W.Sherrit Memorial Award. He was president of Viteoretinal Society of India, and the Founder President of Uveitis Society of India. Prof. Gupta was bestowed Dr. V.R. Khanolkar Oration for his work Intraoccular Tuberculosis and Management, ‘P Siva Reddy International Award’ of the All India Ophthalmological Society 2008, Ranbaxy Research Award-2008 and ‘Achievement Award –2009’ of the American Academy of Ophthalmology etc.
His main areas of interest are diseases of the retina and uvea. He has, to his credit, more than 235 research publications in the peer review national and international journals and more than 430 presentations in various international and national meetings and conferences. He has been actively participating in the national forums and is much sought after speaker in national forums in retinal diseases.
Prof Kusum Joshi’s major research contributions have been in the field of breast pathology, oncopathology and renal and transplantation pathology. She has been honored with Fellowship of Indian College of Pathologists, Honorary consultant (Histopathology) to the Armed Forces. Expert to the Armed Forces Medical Research Committee, Sandipani Rishi Gnyanpeeth Sanman of Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center. She has been President of Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists, Vice president of Indian Society of Organ Transplantation, President of Indian Society of Renal and Transplantation pathology. In addition to many guest lecture in various scientific forums, she has delivered Dr BK Aikat Presidential Oration on Understanding Transplantation in the 21st century and Dr Devaraju Krishnamurthy Memorial Oration (NIMS Hyderabad) on Breast Cancer-changing face over three decades, 2007. Prof. Joshi has 186 publications in indexed journals, 34 other publications and 8 chapters in books/monographs.
