15 Dec :Director CBI, Shri Ashwini Kumar has exhorted media to maintain impartiality and integrity in reporting. Speaking at the inaugural function of week long training module for press persons today, Shri Kumar said that at times, news value is not given pre-eminence in the items reported in view of the marketing strategies of the media organisations.
He called upon the participants to take up this as a challenge and always stand by truth. Like CBI, impartiality and integrity must be maintained at every cost, he added.
Lauding the role of the press, the Director said that media has been a partner at every stage in India’s development. This has also put responsibility on the media as their writings affect people the most. Referring to the activities undertaken by CBI, Shri Kumar said that the CBI through its Policy & Coordination Division, coordinates investigation for the members of Interpol. The CBI has also set up a Cyber Crime Investigation and Research Cell which besides doing research in this field caters to the long felt need of the investigating agencies also. It has also set up Criminal Intelligence Cell.
CBI has developed this Training Module to sensitise the journalists about the role and functions of CBI. Around 20 journalists from newspapers, agencies and electronic media organizations are attending the programme.
In this Training Module, the sessions have been devised to introduce CBI to the Media. These sessions are: – Legal Frame Work of CBI; Anti-corruption Cases; Economic Offences; Special Crime Cases; International Perspective for CBI; Cooperation between CBI and the State Governments; CBI and Media, etc. etc. It also includes visit to Command Centre & CBI new building, and visit to Central Forensic Science Laboratory & INTERPOL.
