22 July : The Government has given clearance to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems project. Under the CCTNS Project, which is proposed to be implemented as a Mission Mode Project, about 14000 Police Stations and 6000 other police offices at various levels would be interconnected for evolution of IT-enabled state-of-the –art tracking system around “investigation of crime and detection of criminals” in the real time. The project will be implemented in a manner where the major role in the implementation of the project would be with the States and the role of the Centre would be largely confined to development and management of the Core Application Software and aspects pertaining to issuing guidelines, review and monitoring of the project implementation.
The Project is expected to be implemented during the three years under the XIth Five Year Plan from 2009-2010 to 2011-2012.
