16 March : Parliament has approved the Appropriation (Vote-on-Account) Bill, 2010 and Appropriation Bill, 2010, with the Rajya Sabha returning the Bills to the Lok Sabha.
Replying to the three-day debate on the Bills, passed by the Lok Sabha earlier, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in an attempt to curb inflationary pressure, the Centre has proposed to set up a core group to identify steps necessary to arrest inflation.
He also said that social and rural upliftment is the mainstay of UPA government and that proposals of Budget 2010 will ensure 9- 10 percent of growth rate and better fiscal consolidation as well.
Pranab Mukherjee said that proposed Goods and services tax will help in better management of revenues among State and central government.
