29 Dec :CBI spokesman in New Delhi said Law and Home Ministries are being consulted on appealing against the trial court judgement in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case including adding charges of abetment to suicide.
Earlier, a petition was filed today in Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking re-opening the case against former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore and asking for a 10-year jail term for his abetment to suicide of teenager Ruchika Girhotra in 1993, three years after he molested her.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women has written to Union and Haryana governments to move fresh applications against Rathore on charges of abetment to suicide, attempt to murder of her brother and criminal conspiracy.
NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas told reporters in Delhi that the commission will be fully supportive in securing civil damages for the Girhotra family.
Meanwhile, Congress today sought action against local Sacred Heart Convent School, which had expelled Ruchika.
In a letter addressed to the Chandigarh Administrator Lt Gen S F Rodrigues, AICC spokesman and Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari said the circumstances in which the school had expelled Ruchika Girhotra must have added to her trauma that ultimately led her to commit suicide.
