25 Dec : Continuing with the probe in the alleged corruption cases against a top income tax official, CBI has arrested two more persons including his brother and raided the local office Kotak Securities and claimed to have recovered Rs 66 lakh in cash from there.
Rupesh Kumar Gupta, the brother of Income Tax Additional Commissioner R K Gupta, who was arrested in a graft case, and a sub-broker of Mahindra Kotak were held by CBI after the agency sleuths recovered the money which was allegedly stashed by the IT officer at the office of Kotak Securities in suburban Malad.
The central investigating agency raided the office of Kotak Securities on Wednesday and is said to have recovered currencies in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination.
"During investigations, the brother of the arrested IT officer broke down and revealed the name of a sub-broker Jaideep Parikh who was allegedly involved in helping the IT officer with the alleged illegal transactions," an official spokesperson said.
Both the accused were produced in a CBI court which sent them police remand till 29th December.Sources said the recovered documents could be related to properties worth more than Rs 4.5 crores allegedly amassed by the IT official and his associates.
Gupta was held on 20th December while allegedly accepting bribe of Rs four lakh from a tax consultant for clearing his file.According to CBI special counsel Ejaz Khan, Gupta during interrogation, had confessed to have transferred Rs 96 lakh to Kotak securities to evade detection.
