New Delhi,9 Apr : The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Project Director of Project Implementation Unit, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Dhanbad for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.2.5 lakh from the complainant at a Hotel in Lajpat Nagar area, New Delhi.
The complainant had got construction contract worth Rs. 2.25 crores in the year 2008, and payment to the tune of Rs. 60 lakhs was pending with the department for want of clearance by the accused. The accused official had demanded a bribe of Rs. Ten lakhs in two installments of Rs. Five lakhs each from the complainant for clearing his pending bills. Since the complainant could only arrange Rs. 2.5 lakhs, the accused agreed to accept the part payment yesterday and rest of the bribe amount was to be paid on clearance of the bill.n
The accused invited the complainant to a Hotel in Lajpat Nagar area of New Delhi where he was staying, after office hours on yesterday. He had come to Delhi in connection with official work at NHAI, HQ, Dwarka, New Delhi.. The CBI laid a trap. The accused took complainant to the Hotel Lobby where he had elaborate discussion after which he demanded and accepted bribe of Rs. 2.5 lakhs, from complainant. The accused was caught and arrested on the spot.
Investigation has revealed that accused has two luxury apartments in a posh locality of Patna and several bank accounts. Searches are being conducted at his residences in Patna and in Dhanbad. The accused is being produced in the designated Court at Delhi today for remand.
