24 Feb :The Union Cabinet gave its approval to the proposed amendments to the Bill providing children right to free and compulsory education on Monday.”Efforts will be made to take time from the Businnes Advisory Committee to introduce the official amendments in the current session of Parliament,” Home Minister P Chidambaram said after the Cabinet meeting.
The Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on 15th December, 2008. The Rajya Sabha Chairman had referred it to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on HRD for examination and report.
The Committee presented its report which was table in the Upper House on 18th February, 2009.The Cabinet also approved proposed amendments to the diferent coinage Acts.
”These Acts have become obsolete, and the new Coinage Bill is likely to be introduced in this session of the next,” Mr Chidambaram said.
Approval was also given to amendments to the Civil Defence Act to bring within its scope ‘Disaster’ and ‘Disaster Management’ as defined in the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Clearance was also given to proposed amendments to the Emigration Act of 1983 to allow Indian Missions to ask about the working conditions of the Indians working abroad.
