9 Sep ;UGC’s directive to universities across the country to run courses on watershed technology and management has got a boost with the Central Ground Water Board under Water Resources Ministry extending cooperation for success of the courses.
The ministry has, in fact, launched a special campaign targeting educational institutes under a slew of initiatives aimed at sustaining ground water resources in the country.It has decided to make it a national initiative keeping in view the emerging situation, involving all stakeholders.
UGC has already issued a circular to all the universities to start certificate, diploma and advanced diploma programmes in watershed technology/management in colleges affiliated to it and issued model course content, said UGC sources.
The regional offices of Central Ground Water Board will render necessary technical guidance for running the programmes.The certificate course in watershed technology/management is likely to include modules like earth system, weather and climate, introductory geology, ground water etc.
Similarly, the diploma courses in watershed technology/management is likely to feature modules like surface hydrology, geomorphology, ground water hydrology, ground water exploration, irrigation management.
