Chandigarh, 1 Dec : The Environment Department, UT, Chandigarh in collaboration with C.I.I.’s Young Indians is going to launch a mega E Waste Collection Drive on 30th November/2011 in the Chandigarh city. The E-waste collection drive in the city is being launched with the objective to promote greener and healthy environment by ensuring scientific collection and processing of city’s e-waste in an a environment friendly manner. The C.I.I. Young Indians have signed an MoU with M/s Attero Recycling Pvt. Ltd. (Roorkee based unit) for collection and disposal of electronic waste from Chandigarh city in scientific and environment friendly manner.
To start with, especially designed 8 no. of E-Waste Collection Bins have been placed at strategic locations as per detail given at Annexure-I. All Government Departments, Institutions, Organizations etc have been requested to keep thie E Waste ready for collection.
The citizens of Chandigarh shall be requested and made aware of presence of such E-Waste Collection Bins so that small size e-waste can be thrown in the E-Waste Collection Bin. In future, more e-waste collection bins are likely to be placed.
However, there may be e-waste of larger size which can not be put in the bins like Computer Monitor, TV, Printer, etc. for which new initiative of a TOLL FREE NUMBER 1-800-419-3283 is being launched by Shri K.K Sharma, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh at UT Secretariat, Sector-9 at 1030 hrs. The Toll Free Number is being operated by M/s Attero Recycling Pvt. Ltd in collaboration with CII Young Indians & Environment Department . On calling this number, the citizens of the city shall be provided facility for healthy disposal of e-waste and their call shall be attended within 72 hours.
