The India Post, Chandigarh, 6th Feburary, 2009 : “Srishti ” The Environment Society of GCG-42 organized “Environment Awareness Campaign ” in collaboration with Punjab and Chandigarh Department of Science and Technology ,Chd and “Biological Association” of the College .An inter-college “Collage making and Debate Competition on the topic “Should Development be restricted to prevent climate change ”were held in which more than 100 students of various colleges of Chandigarh, participated .Mrs.Shashi Malik ,Principal of GCG-42,gave away prizes to the winners .Earlier in the morning, Mrs.Shashi Malik inaugurated “ Solar Green House” at the college campus which has a collection of more than 200 plants including a wide range of ornamentals ,evergreen and medicinal plants .The financial assistance for the establishment of Green House provided by the D&ST Chandigarh Administration. The Green House would help in upgrading the Academic Ambiance of the campus and the students.The function concluded with a “talk” on recent perspective of climate change by Dr.Daizy Rani Batish of Botany Department of Panjab University ,Chandigarh .Simultaneously a Cleanliness Drive was carried on in the college campus area earmarked for Botanical Garden of the college .Students were sensitized about biodegradable and non – degrade able waste and the need to keep the environment clean. Principal Shashi Malik appreciated the efforts of the Environment Society.The English Literary Society and Department of Commerce also organized Paper Reading and Declamation Contest
