21 July:The Phek Town Chakhesang Student Union conducted a mass social work under the theme ‘Sanitation Drive On Global Warming’ on 18th July 2008. Around 1800 students along with two teacher representatives from each school took part in the programme 8 a.m till 3 p.m.
Phek Town Council Chairperson Kupota Khesoh stressed on the importance of civic sense and social responsibility and threat of global warming and challenged the students to fight against the hazardous and alarming threat of global warming by keeping one’s own locality free from pollution. Rev. D.N. Soho, the local Church pastor led the students into the day’s work with a prayer.
The Union President Avi Movi credited the success of the program to D.C, Phek, Commandant 5th NAP, S.P Phek, E.E. PWD, MS, Civil Hospital Phek, Town Councillors and DFO for providing sapling of trees, refreshment and transportation for disposal of waste. He requested all the citizens of Phek Town to look after the trees which were planted on the roadside. Meanwhile, the Union assured to make the town a better place to live in by taking up the sanitation programme and further activities in future.
