16 Jan : Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Shri Kapil Sibal today released the first edition of Planet Earth, a premium monthly magazine that addresses vital environmental issues and attempts to bring together various efforts being undertaken globally for a better and greener planet.
The publication brought out by Gateway Media is being supported by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). It endeavours to ensure that future generations will still be able to draw inspiration with its deep blue oceans, the overbearing mountains, the green forests and the ancient rivers that have fed civilizations. It will also serve as a platform for the discussion of interrelationships between changes the Earth is undergoing, how human habits trigger them, industry initiatives that are environment-friendly and strategies that will pave way for sustainable living.
The launch was followed by The Green Leadership Forum 2009, a panel discussion. ÂgClimate Resilient Development: Goals and StrategiesÂh was the theme for the panel discussion, which had eminent personalities from the Ministry, the industry and individual organizations participating. Shri Kapil Sibal was the Chief Panelist. The other panelists included Dr Shailesh R Nayak, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India and Chairman, Earth Commission, Mr. Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director, Centre for Environment Education Nehru Foundation for Development, Dr Prem C. Jain, Chairman, IGBC & CMD, Spectral Services Consultants Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Mahesh Babu, Managing Director & CEO, IL&FS Ecosmart and Mr. Sunand Sharma, Country President, Alstom India and Chairman, ALSTOM Projects India Limited.
