Green run was organized by Environment society of India, Chandigarh and students of Chitkara University, Punjab Campus. A group of approximately 40 students were spotted in Green T-shirts. The mission of this green run as the students say was to spread awareness about the environment issues. The team also planted trees at Sukhna lake. The students who volunteered for this run were all a part of Chitkara University’s national annual socio-cultural fest Pratibimbh’11 to be held on the 23rd and 24th of September.
The fest along with the rich Indian culture promotes burning social issues prevalent in our country. The team pledged to use minimum paper. All the paper that is used for pre fest promotions and certificates is recycled.
In the function N.K. Jhingan, Secretary General of The Environment Society of India said that A workshop GO GREEN TO SAVE GREEN is also being conducted by Environment Society of India, Chandigarh and CEE, New Delhi at Chitkara University on the 23rd of September during the fest Pratibimbh’11. the workshop focuses on reducing the overall carbon footprint and best out of waste.
Similarly workshops on e-waste will also be conducted with the help of Nokia in various schools of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. Where students will be given awareness about the harmful effect of e-waste, and mobile phone and accessories which are not in use are lying in the houses will be collected from the students. Students will be given gifts made from recycling of e-wastes.
