11 August : 17530 water samples have been analyzed by the Regional Chemical Laboratories of the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) during 2007-08. Chemical analysis of water samples collected during various studies are analyzed in the 16 Regional Chemical Laboratories of the Board.
Out of 17530 water samples, 15304 samples were analyzed for basic constituents, 1961 samples for heavy metals such as Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Cobalt (CO), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni), Lead (Pb) etc., 103 samples were analyzed for organic constituents and 162 samples were analyzed for specific chemical constituents.
All the laboratories are equipped with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer in order to carry out the analysis of toxic elements and heavy metals. 4 Chemical laboratories are also equipped with Gas Chromatograph (GC) to take up the analysis of organic pollutants (pesticides etc.). 13 laboratories are equipped to carry out bacteriological analysis.
