There’s a whole camp of attractive women in their thirties who are currently playing mothers to full-grown adults on the tube at the moment. You have Urvashi Dholakia who played mother-in-law to the main protagonist Sargun Mehta (easily 25 herself!) in Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharmyudh, Riva bubber who plays Sara Khan’s mother in Ram Milaayi Jodi despite being just 32 and Pragati Mehra who plays a mid-forties mother figure in Choti Bahu. Jumping onto the same bandwagon is the pretty Usha Bachani, remembered the best for her roles in Taal, Raju Chacha and Fashion. Bachani has just bagged the role of Mughal invader Ghaznavi’s mother in Zee TV’s historical drama Shobha Somnath Ki.While Usha can easily slide into the role of his love interest, she is quite kicked about playing the mother’s role simply because she believes it has meat! She says, “The role of Ghaznavi’s mother is not an everyday mother’s role. Unlike Ghaznavi, she is a strongly positive character who has always attempted to reform her errant son. While she strongly disapproves of his ways, she cannot forget the fact that she is his mother and must manage a fine balancing act between her maternal instincts and her own conscience. I found this aspect very intriguing and immediately accepted the role!”
