At a recent shoot, actor Srishti Rode who plays the role of warrior princess Shobha in Zee TV’s historical drama Shobha Somnath Ki, had an elaborate fight sequence where she had to ride on horseback, wielding a sword. Not exactly a seasoned rider, Srishti found herself fumbling with the reins of her horse who began to gallop uncontrollably.
Actor Jignesh Mehta, who plays Prince Bheemdev, the male lead opposite her, was also riding a horse for the same scene at a slight distance. Seeing his heroine helpless, Jignesh thought this is his turn to be the knight in shining armor and rescue her. So, he valiantly rode towards her and in a bid to break her fall, swung in her general direction. Alas! Instead of rescuing Srishti and doing his heroic act of the day, Jignesh crashed to the ground along with Srishti.
While the two, thankfully, escaped with only minor bruises, Jignesh did become a butt of jokes for all the onlookers who were seen smirking at his failed attempt at rescuing Srishti. “While it was a tense moment on the sets when Srishti’s horse seemed to go out of control, we couldn’t hold back our laughter when Jignesh reached out to help her and ended up making both of them crash to the floor. It was nothing short of slapstick comedy!” said an onlooker.
Jignesh, in his defence said, “It’s all very funny, huh? Everyone is too busy laughing at my failed act of heroism. No one realizes that I was merely trying to help a co-star in trouble. And we’re all human. Though I’m usually good at horse-riding, somehow we both slipped awkwardly and had a fall!”
Srishti added, “Jignesh was really sweet in trying to help me out when I had trouble with my horse. But, I guess we both ended up fumbling and falling. Things like this happen at times. We just ended up becoming the butt of all jokes!”
While Jignesh didn’t exactly emerge as the hero of the day off-screen, his character Bheemdev is sure living up to his reputation of being the bravest warrior prince ever. In the current track of the show, viewers will find Bheemdev and Shobha coming face-to-face under unusual circumstances whereby they do not recognize each other. Ultimately, when their identities will be unveiled to each other, they will join forces in saving Shobha’s cousin, Chaula from being trafficked to Ghazani and preventing the plundering of Somnath Mandir.
