17 Mar : Sufi singer Harshdeep Kaur won Big Star IMA awards 2011 which was recently held in mumbai. She was nominated in Folk category, leaving behind her competitor Harshdeep Kaur won the award.
Harshdeep got the award for song “Aj Di Dihadi Doli” from a Punjabi Album “The Great Big Punjabi Wedding”. The album presents singers in regional and contemporary flavors – bet you have never heard them before like this. The album has 8 volumes and this song of Harshdeep is in volume II, in category of Rasmein. With Harshdeep Kaur the other singers are Bangladeshi singing sensation Runa Laila, to India’s Punjabi Pop king Jasbir Jassi, Pakistan’s Rockstar Ustad Shafqat Amanat Ali and artistes who are outstanding exponents of their styles and genres such as classical singer Sunanda Sharma, ghazal diva Radhika Chopra, folk singer Balbir Chand (Beera) and the singer with the silver bells in her voice Madan Bala Sindhu.Though many great singers gave their voice in the album but Harshdeep Kaur song stood out in the album and became more famous. Though Harshdeep is for her Sufi genre songs but getting an award in folk category is a great achievement. She has sung in many movies and albums.
