The India Post, Chandigarh, 1st December, 2008 : YUVSATTA – NGO and State AIDS Control Society, U.T., Chandigarh organized an awareness programme and a Street Play on HIV/AIDS at Transport Area, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Around 300 transporters, Drivers, Cleaners, mechanics etc. participated in the same.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of YUVSATTA informed them about free services of Counseling available at their Bapu Dham office for appropriate behaviour change with regard to usage of condoms, access to treatment of sexually transmitted infections which is a critical factors in reducing the transmission of HIV infection and voluntary blood testing for knowing HIV status.
On the occasion artists associated with ‘MASK THEATRE’ staged a street play titled ‘BHASMASUR, the storyline of this play states that there is no cure of AIDS and prevention is better than cure. People should MAKE A PROMISE to STOP AIDS by 100% Condom usage to meet the Challenge. It also appealed people for voluntary blood testing of HIV status.
Mr. Anil Kumar, Project Manager of Yuvsatta also addressed the people and informed them about various steps for treatments of drug/alcohol addicts in Chandigarh, especially in PGI and in Government Hospitals for treating the disease of alcoholism and substance abuse.
Free condoms and hundreds of brochures/handbills on HIV/AIDS were also distributed by Yuvsatta volunteers to the slum dwellers on the occasion.
