Chandigarh, 26th June. The promotional tour of the film reached Chandigarh on Thursday where Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa, Manmord Sidhu, Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Anurag Singh were present. That horrible era of 1984 disrupted a number of families in Punjab. People lost their houses, they were killed without a reason but there was no corner for their grievances. ‘Punjab 1984’ is a story of such a family where a mother spends her whole day sitting outside the police station and there is no one to listen to her. This lady is Satwant Kaur whose son went out to work in the fields one day and never returned. This saga of a mother’s pain and a son’s fight is being brought to the screen by White Hill Productions and Basic Brothers Productions. Veteran actress Kirron Kher is playing the mother and the star of Punjabi cinema Diljit Dosanjh is playing the son. Super hit films giver Anurag Singh has directed this movie and also written the story and the screenplay. The film has been produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu. Pawan Malhotra, Sonam Bajwa, Arun Bali, Rana Ranbir, Manav Vij and Vishwas Kini will also be seen in the film.
Anurag Singh has given a number of hit Punjabi films teaming up with Diljit Dosanjh earlier. He said that Diljit Dosanjh is such an actor who never learns the dialogues word to word. Rather, he understands the scene and the situation and improvises accordingly. Making ‘Punjab 1984’ has been a life changing experience for me. I have realised what extraordinary courage these seemingly ordinary and simple women in the villages of Punjab have.
Diljit Dosanjh learnt a lot while working with Kirron Kher and Pawan Malhotra. He said who would not like to work with such senior and one of the oldest members of the industry. I believe that I have taken many steps forward with this film as a student of acting. On the other hand Sonam Bajwa said that she is proud to work in a Punjabi film as it connects her to her roots. She is extremely happy for being chosen for this character.
The music of the film was released a few days back on Speed Records which is being highly appreciated all over. Music has been composed by Gurmeet Singh, Nick Dhammu, Jatinder Shah and Gurmoh. Veet Baljit, Raj Ranjodh, Jagvir Sohi and Dr. Tejinder Harjit have penned the lyrics. Out of five, Diljit Dosanjh has sung four songs. Anurag Singh himself is a part of the music production. One song from the album ‘Ammi Udeekdi’ has been penned by him only.
Gunbir Singh Sidhu has been associated with almost every big and best film of Punjabi industry. He told that this film is a story of mother-son relationship with which everybody relates to. When Anurag Singh came up with the script, there was no point to say no to this project.
