Chandigarh, April 25: Today Yuvsatta-an NGO and Peace Club of DAV Sr. Sec. School (Lahore), Chandigarh organized a workshop for teachers of tricity Schools in which representative teachers from over 50 prominent Schools of Chandigarh, Panchkula and SAS Nagar (Mohali) participated. Mr. Justice Hemant Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
And while inaugurating the workshop Justice Hemant Gupta shared that forces of urbanization and globalization in present texture and practice subordinate ethical values, moral considerations and stress only material and consumerist aspect of life. The world of tomorrow and the challenges facing humanity today call for a reappraisal of what Buddha & Gandhi offers. And Schools should work with an aim of protecting youngster’s minds from being imbued by violence in the society, preparing them for building a peaceful world by empowering them with necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills and also to humanize the child, teaching and learning.
Explaining the objectives of the workshop Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta said that today they suggested five programme during this training programme which Schools can easily start to nurture caring hearts & creative minds. And these are Read Chandigarh Campaign with a thrust on promoting reading habits among young minds. Inspired by ‘1 Malaysia and Power of 10 Sen in Malaysia’ they introduced today a ‘1 India and Power of 1 Rupee Campaign’, fostering goodwill, oneness of human beings and empowering the marginalized girls. Emphasis was also laid on promoting a culture of nonviolence and service in students through Peace Clubs in Schools and ways and means to propagate 3 H education i.e. education for Heart, Head and Hands were also discussed.
Dr. Vibha Ray, Principal of DAV Sr. Sec. School (Lahore) & Aruna Bhardwaj, Principal, Gurukul Global School, Reeta Kohli, Addl. Advocate General, Punjab also chaired some sessions. Ajatshatru-a peace trainer associated with ‘Play for Peace’ also introduced cooperative games to inculcate and understand peace and strengthen the Peace Clubs in Schools.
SK Setia, Jt. Secretary, Chandigarh Administration presided over the valedictory session of workshop and presented participation certificate to teachers. Appreciating the concept of Peace Clubs in Schools he said Peace Clubs can also work to stop bullying, aggression against others, put-downs, teasing, and harassment would also cease while efforts can be make students understand to resolve conflicts without violence.
