Punjab : University and college teachers throughout the country will organize protest at state capitals on February 17, 2012. The call for the protest has been given by All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO). The demands of AIFUCTO are:
Immediate payment of arrears by the Central and state Govts.,
Stop commercialization of higher education, Remove anomalies in UGC Regulations (pay scales & Ph.D.) & date of extension of RC/OC ,Notification of CAS by the state govts ,Payment of justified salaries following UGC & AICTE pay scales to contractual, Ad Hoc, part time, guest teachers by the state funded universities, colleges, research institutes and self-financing institutions., Complete parity between teachers, librarians and DPEs regarding pay scales and retirement age, Withdrawal of new pension scheme and national debate on the educational bills.
Dr. Jagwant Singh, Vice President AIFUCTO in a statement said that while executive members of teachers associations of GNDU, PU, PAU, GADVASU, Punjabi University, Government Colleges and Non-Government Colleges of Punjab will stage dharna at Chandigarh, teachers of Haryana will hold protest outside the camp office of Chief Minister Haryana at Rohtak. In the next phase of agitation teachers from Punjab and Haryana and Himachal Pradesh will court arrest in New Delhi on March 14, followed by court arrest by teachers from other state on March 15 and 16.
