Chandigarh ; Members of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) will observe cease work in 3rd and 4th period on August 26, 2015 to protest against the apathy of the State Government towards genuine demands of teachers. In a statement Dr. Jagwant Singh, President PCCTU and Shri H.S. Walia, General Secretary, PCCTU stated that despite repeated assurances Govt. has failed to resolve the issue of House rent allowance, medical allowance, backlog of grants, extension of date of RC/OC, creation of posts of Professors in colleges, conversion of posts and filling up of posts. They said that on almost all these issues, the Principal Secretary (Higher Education), in a meeting held will representatives of PCCTU on May 20, 2015 had assured positive steps. However, there has been no progress on the issues. Even on the issue of amendment of Security of Service Act 1974, to undo the amendment made in December 2007, nothing concrete has been done, although it has no financial implications. The apathy and attitude of the Govt. has forced teachers to protest.
