Irked with the discriminatory and step motherly attitude of Akali-BJP Government, the teachers of Government colleges of Punjab will court arrest on December 1, 2011. The department of Higher Education , Government of Punjab is not making any single effort to listen to the demands of the college teachers in Punjab and the position of Higher education in the state Punjab is in total mess. This was stated by newly elected President and General Secretary of the Punjab Government College teachers Association, Prof. Hardip Singh Tej and Prof. Jai Pal Singh respectively.
They said that Punjab government is adopting double standards on payment of arrears of pay scale revision and enhancement of retirement age. On the issue of enhancing retirement age as per the MHRD notification, the government says it will not isolate only government college teachers from other state government employees. So much so it is discriminating government college teachers on this issue as we retire at 58 whereas teachers of universities and private colleges retire at 60.
On the other hand state government has willfully isolated government college teachers from other state government employees on the issue of arrears and pay scale revision as it has paid first installment of 40% arrears in May to all other employees and has singled us out and not paid even a single penny as arrears. The government is raising arbitrary objections to the relaxation of refresher courses up to 30.6. 2010 as per UGC letter dated 3.6.10.
Advance increments to all left out in M Phil. PhD degree holders are unnecessarily being not being awarded. Modalities for creation of posts of professors are not being worked out. If the government does not concede our demands then after arrests on December, 1, we shall be forced to resort to indefinite strike and the state government shall be solely responsible for the loss of student’s studies.
