By Y.S. Rana, CHANDIGARH : Preparation for the upcoming ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ set for October 2 launch, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the educational institutes in Chandigarh have gone extra mile and launch it here on Thursday.
The education department of the Chandigarh Administration held a meeting on September 24 under the chairmanship of Sandeep Hans, Director, Higher Education, Chandigarh, and decided to launch week-long swachh Bharat from September 25. All the principals of educational institutes were present in the meeting.
In the meeting the directorate of education has come up with a set of guidelines. The guidelines have been sent to all educational institutes in Chandigarh. Mr Sandeep Hans said that guidelines which contained specific suggestions for principals seeking from them to ensure fully functional and clean toilets in their respective institutes. “Principals should ensure ‘unlocked’ and’unblocked’ toilets in their respective institute besides cleanliness inside the premises, added Hans.
While talking to Bikram Rana, State Liason Officer, NSS Cell, Chandigarh revealed that NSS volunteers have been engaged in the Abhiyan and NSS units would take it to the villages of Chandigarh adopted by them. “Stress will be to aware public about importance of cleanliness and students will be advised not to litter in school as well in their locality,” said Mr Rana.
It was also decided to encourage students to participate in discussions during prayer sessions to inculcate values of cleanliness in their daily life. The Abhiyan would not be only week-long celebration but it would be a continuous process of our daily life. “Impact of the Abhiyan before and after its launch will be monitored from time to time,” said Mr Hans
