By Ankur Vadhera, CHANDIGARH : In response to the call given by Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU), the non-govt. colleges of Chandigarh today observed a strike for 2 hours and staged dharnas. In a statement Dr. Navneet Batra, President Chandigarh District Council of PCCTU said that teachers have been forced to protest as staff in colleges have not received salary for almost 10 months due to delay in release of grant, despite repeated assurances. The security of Service Act Amendment made in 2008 has not been withdrawn.
Dr. Batra demanded immediate creation of Posts of Professors in Colleges as provided in the pay scale notification and release of money for payment of arrears to the teachers working on unaided posts as provided in the notification of Govt. of India dated December 31, 2008. He also urged upon Chandigarh Administration to release the research degree increments and process the career advancement cases pending for almost three years.
