Chandigarh, August 3,2015 : Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) is the central nodal agency for the prevention and control of vector borne diseases i.e. Malaria, Dengue, Lymphatic Filariasis, Kala-azar, Japanese Encephalitis and Chikungunya in India. It is one of the Technical Departments of Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India.
Stepping Stones in collaboration with NVBDCP organized a workshop for its students, to make them aware about the health risks arising from the aforementioned vector borne disease and the preventive measures that can be undertaken to safeguard ones home and family. The various methods chemical, biological and mechanical by which these vectors and pathogens could be eliminated were discussed through PPT’s and also through an ENTOMOLOGICAL EXHIBITION. Therein, students were shown live specimens of various vectors and their biological control methods using fish etc.
The informative videos shown drove home the point of maintaining good personal hygiene and be aware of the quality of food intake to ensure a long healthy life. Included thereof was the precise procedure for washing hands and so on.

The session ended with a pledge wherein all students promised to abide by the principles of health and hygiene as discussed during the day. They also pledged to spread the word by organizing various plays / skits etc not only to their peers but to the members of the community as well.
