21 Dec : After the technological success of Chandrayaan-1, the Indian Space Research Organization has entered a different plane with the WDM satellite made by it for a foreign customer, zoomed into space.
The WDM communication satellite was launched with an Ariane launch vehicle from Kouru in French Guiana near the West Indies.The project of building the satellite weighing 3462 kg, the heaviest ever built by ISRO, was won jointly by European consortium EADS and ISRO.
It is said to have fetched the Indian Space agency about 40 million dollars. ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair and several other top officials from different units of ISRO were present during the launch.
