Now, schoolchildren will make Madhya Pradesh green. The homework to be given to them for summer vacation will also improve their personalities. At a meeting held at Mantralaya today, Forest Minister Shri Sartaj Singh and School Education Minister Smt. Archana Chitnis instructed the officers of concerning departments to prepare an outline of the campaign in a couple of days.
The meeting was informed that with a view to creating awareness about environmental conservation, students of middle and higher classes will be given assignment of preparing saplings during the summer vacation. The students will be provided seeds of plants and trees. At their respective homes, the students will have to sow these seeds, ensure their germination and look after the saplings. After start of the new academic session, the saplings prepared by students will be planted in their respective schools or other safe places in the soil conducive to the species of these plants so that schoolchildren can look after them. A project including a write-up on lifecycle of trees will also be assigned to students. It is being construed that children will become aware of trees’ lifecycle while preparing the project report in two-month vacation. It will also inculcate patience among children.
Forest Minister Shri Sartaj Singh said that officers of Forest Department will cooperative in chalking out the outline and will also give guidance in a phased manner on this good work. School Education Minister Smt. Archana Chitnis instructed to ensure participation of horticulture, Panchayat raj institutions and urban bodies. She also instructed to chalk out a better outline. Ashram Shalas of School Education Department will also take part in the work. Principal Secretaries of Tribal Welfare, Forest, School Education departments, Commissioners of Tribal Welfare, Rajya Shiksha Kendra and several officers were present at the meeting.
