February 03, 2018: The Training and Placement Cell of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organized a special lecture on “Career Opportunities at BARC” for the final year students of Engineering and Applied Sciences, at CRS Auditorium. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Anil Kumar Pundir, Registrar was also present during the lecture. Pratap Singh Malik, Director, Placement Cell presented the welcome address and introduced the keynote speaker Dr. Shiv Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist, Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC).
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar said that there is a great need to harness research areas in nuclear energy. For sustainable and long-term development, environment protection should be kept in mind and power generation through nuclear reactors has least affect on environment, he opined.
Dr. Shiv Kumar, Senior Scientist from Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) in his expert lecture, explained about Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Elaborating power generation through nuclear reactors, he said that India has attained self-sufficiency in terms of nuclear energy. He told that there is negligible affect to environment while electricity generated through nuclear power plants as compared to other mode of power generation. Quoting the Department of Atomic Energy as an institute of exception, he said that BARC has elaborative mandate in research and development of atomic energy. In addition to power reactors, production of radio isotopes, lasers, accelerators and supercomputers are also being produced at BARC. Dr. Shiv Kumar said that in order to restrained utilization of nuclear energy there is great need of indigenous manpower in the field of atomic energy. There is vast scope of extra-ordinary training and great working environment at various institutes of the DAE, he said. He appealed the student to participate in online examinations organized by BARC for which registration is open till 11th February, 2018. Online examination for the recruitment will be held in the month of March.
