Kurukshetra, Dec.15- “To bring more land under cultivation, we should think of acquiring barren land as advocated by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for nationalization of agriculture. According to land Act of India land is meant for agriculture. We can hand over such land to army for developing military farms for bringing discipline on the one hand and more barren land under cultivation,” Opined Dr. M. M. Goel, Professor of Economics & Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Kurukshetra University , while addressing the participants of the refresher course at Dept. of History sponsored by the UGC – Academic Staff College , here today. He was speaking on the topic “Sustainability in Indian Agriculture”.
To spread the message of hope and enthusiasm among Indian farmers, let them get remunerative prices for their agro-products including potato and onion. The post harvest losses need to be reduced to minimum if not zero. A portion of the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) say at the rate of five percent can be paid in foreign currency (US dollar) so that the farmers can also share the foreign exchange reserves in the country which otherwise require proper utilization, said Professor Goel.
